Art classes at the Art Tree are offered for individuals interested in the opportunity to learn and expand various artistic skills. Please read below for descriptions of the classes that are offered, as well as class schedules.

Drawing - Cubism Introduction to cubism, also covering its history and purpose. Learn to draw in the early 20th Century experimental and expressive cubist style of Picasso and Braque using pencil, charcoal, and various papers. Learn about how to apply value (gradation of tone from light to dark, from white to gray to black), as well as space and shape. Painting - Watercolours Introduction to colour theory, and experimentation with pattern and texture. Learn to create a work of art using the illustrative properties of pen & ink, and playful nature of watercolour paint. Beatrix Potter and many other storytellers used these portable tools to help document their characters. For inspiration, visit the Peter Rabbit website. Linocut Printmaking - Basics of Linocut Printing Introduction to using linoleum as an artistic printmaking medium. Learn about its history as a modern variant of woodblock printing. Learn about different types of art linoleum and how to use linoleum carving tools to make a relief carving that can be inked and used as a printing template. Linocut Printmaking - Three-Colour Linocut Printing As a follow up to the basic linocut printing class, extend your knowledge of printing with linoleum using colour, and learn how to use three colours to make multi-coloured linocut prints. Challenge yourself to envision your artistic creation in reverse and practice using different colour combinations to create multiple works of art from your linocut carving. Melted Wax Discover the medium of melted wax, and its many creative possibilities as an abstract form of artistic expression. Use a heat press, various iron sizes, and wax to create art using recycled materials. Challenge yourself to expand your creative horizons with this fun and exciting medium.
