About the Artist
Born and raised in Calgary, George Corbett has a long history of spending much of his time enjoying the outdoors, in work and as a painter. After retiring from the City Roads department, George has devoted his time to creating art.
George’s passion for art began when he took painting classes at the Art College (ACAD) during the evenings. From there he joined Crescent View Artists Society and has participated with this community of artists for over ten years. He has participated in annual art shows with Crescent View Artists and art shows at the Leighton Centre, just outside of Calgary.
Western Canadian landscape is George’s choice of subject, and you may find him and his easel set up in one of the roadside stops going to Banff, or west to British Columbia. Finding his subject matter is easy and while most of his paintings are oil on canvas, you may find a painting or two of his on old saw blades or rocks. George has painted a series of small landscapes on mat board in "CD size", some of which he has generously donated to support the arts, non-profit organizations.
Presentation and participation are two valuable qualities of George Corbett. His paintings are professionally framed and recorded, and he often displays them at The Art Tree, or community art shows.
A regular participant in an annual city tree planting event (Artists in the Environment Tree Planting Society) George has donated many hours of labour planting trees. He also helps out in fundraising for numerous causes through donations of his paintings.
